"Only one person in ten survives a cardiac arrest outside of hospital, so the provision of locally available defibrillators in the community can provide a vital life saving asset," according to the chair of the South Central Ambulance Trust, Prof Sir Keith Willett.
In fact, the chances of survival fall by 10% for every minute which passes before treatment.

Since national public funds are limited or require match-funding, most community defibrillators rely on charity and private grants. Defibrillators for Reading is a volunteer run campaign, entirely not-for-profit and draws no expenses, with every penny raised going directly towards installations.
